during a snowstorm the mountain is invisible
after the snow, the clouds are beginning to part and you can just begin to see the mountain

The cottage is glorious! Ed and I love every minute of our lives in Jaffrey. Most of the pictures below are now 2-3 years old. I am going to add some more recent pictures which will show the beauty of winter. We spent Christmas 2007 at the cottage and experienced our first-ever White Christmas. We have nearly completed our second remodelling: adding room to what we thought would be a simple pass-thru room to make it a dining room. Our lives in Jaffrey include lots of dinner parties so it follows that we needed cozy space for these events. We have had 40 for a summer buffet, using the porches and entire cottage. For New Year's Eve, we were ten at the table and we stayed up until midnight by enjoying a leisurely dinner in our new dining space.

Remember, the fireplace draws, beds abound with pillows and comforters, the kitchen is small and works well for crowds, and the latch is on the outside!

This picture shows the gable turned, but porch not yet started. Facing west, this
faces Mount Monadnock.

Porch is almost completed. The screened portion will be to your left and continue about 2/3
down or just to the newly remodeled/added south room.

The north bedroom will open onto the porch and can be seen to the far left on the one story Tyvek wall.

behind all of this work is Rich Hamilton: master craftsman, visionary, and well-known fiddler!

a few views of the mountain. this is from the south end of the porch.

this view is from just outside the living/kitchen.

The lower drive was a fairly dismal sight. This picture shows the basement and portion of the garage. Also seen is a portion of the old south room and the connector.

area between garage and
basement was a terrible
wind tunnell. steps did not
meet the previous deck.

we still have to put in insulated garage doors. and, as I write this the siding is being placed on the house. we were held up as we had to wait for utility company to move meter...they were short handed as they send trucks to hurricane stricken south.

Well, the garage doors are installed and siding is completed. Now we will be able to paint in the spring.

these are views as you drive up to the house. you can easily see the work in progress!

the fall has arrived and winter window coverings are hung.

the living/kitchen is ready for a summer meal

The original living room has been made open into the kitchen and onto the porch.

The original house and the rebuilt portion of the house (the south room) are connected a small room which we shall call the library. This will be a space to read, work puzzles, or sew.

We named this the "Texas" room since the bed frames are old Texas cedar beds. This room slept a famly of 4 during the holidays and there were no altercations!

Notice that each bunk has its own light and the upper bunk has a "cubby" for books, water bottles, etc. We aim to please!

as winter approaches, the fuel truck will be coming more often. our tank is in the basement and is filled thru a pipe in basement wall just off upper driveway. our heat comes from hot water which circulates thru baseboard radiators. this fuel also heats the water for bathing, etc.

our electrician, Ham Richardson, would never have accepted this job is he had realized its extent. we have his Christmas list and are preparing to fill his stocking.

Chris works at the local hdwr/lumber company and rues the day he met us. our constant list of windows, doors and lumber keep him busy. He truly has been a life saver and has made this job much easier.

Scott Carter was shocked by the color scheme but is beginning to like a house that has colors other than white and off-white. Well, maybe he is saying that because he wants to keep peace on the job site.

This picture was taken from the south end of new porch. The ceiling boards will soon be installed and the electrical completed. T

Below are some pictures from our last trip to England. I had great fun putting this page together and wonder if anyone ever gets this far down...?

This view from upper drive shows the north bedroom and porch. The screens will go on in the spring. Our bags are awaiting our ride to the airport on Nov 2nd..how we hated to leave the lovely leaves and our happy cottage.

Similar view in winter.
